Nighttime Update
I had spoken with Amelia's teachers when we started at her new school 2 years ago. When we left her in-home daycare (at age 3) she was down to 1-20 minute nap a day. In her last two daycare classrooms the kids have a 2-hour nap. They have to lay on their cots in the dark with relaxing CD music going - of course Amelia slept the entire two hours.
When Amelia started in the preschool room this year my MAIN concern was how long the nap was - it is only an hour now. The kids aren't required to sleep; however they do have to sit on their cots - in the dark with the relaxing CD music going. I just asked Amelia what the kids do who don't take a nap, "NOTHING! Everyone takes a nap."
I guess I'll have to have a talk to the teacher to see if there is another option.
Someone mentioned Melatonin; I actually tried this when Amelia was younger. My friend has a little boy who is very ill and his neurologist actually suggested it for him and gave them a dosage. I was comfortable using at the same dosage as they were the same weight - it had NO effect on Amelia. Perhaps I could try it again, if I can't get rid of that nap.
